PRT-Wood Oy manufactures its products from pure and close-grained northern wood.
So as to ensure the continued high quality of the raw material used, PRT-Wood applies the environmentally sound principle of sustainable development in its production and wood procurement. Our modern wood handling technology maximizes the product quality, and also minimizes energy consumption and the amount of wood wasted in production.

A major aspect of the PRT-Group’s quality approach is our deep concern for the environment of the region in which we operate. Strict adherence to Forest and Environmental Laws and Standards confirms our commitment to sustainability. We aim to protect the biodiversity of our natural forests, and to operate in harmony with the various users of the forest. PRT-Wood Oy has demonstrated this by achieving full PEFC chain-of-custody certification. The Finnish Forest Certification Council has granted to PRT-Wood Oy the right to use PEFC-logo for ”Promoting Sustainable Forest Management”. The licence registration number is PEFC/02-31-74 and it is based on the chain-of-custody certificate granted by Inspecta Certification (certificate no. 2657-04).

High-quality wood from the North

PRT-Wood Oy saws slow-grown, homogeneous northern whitewood and redwood ideally suited to high-quality joinery for modern offices and and comfortable homes. Our northern wood is a beautiful and pure natural product, and our rugged soil and climate make it grow slowly, making it both close-grained and easy to work.

PRT-Wood’s quality assurance process begins right at the source with wood procurement. The logs are purchased based on their quality, and are always graded on the basis of their intended end-use. Wood procurement has been synchronized with sawing capacity so that there is no need to store the material for excessive periods of time.

Modern handling technology optimizes the use of wood and yields high-quality sawn goods characterised by fine sawn surfaces and accurate dimensions. These special products conforming to customer requirements are the main quality components in PRT-Wood’s customer service.

Pressure impregnation

PRT-Wood pressure impregnates sawn goods to be used as a building material in moist or ground-contact conditions. The pressure impregnation plant at Pyhäsalmi operates under the quality control of Inspecta Certification Oy (sign R3). It has been granted the licence to use NTR-trade mark and SFS-inspection mark for products produced according to standards SFS-EN 351 and SFS-EN 599. This licence concerns the grades P8/HC4 and P8/HC3 (chromium and arsenic free). The compliance with both production and product standards is audited by Inspecta Certfication Oy regularly.
